This FREE early-evening concert marks the launch of Máire Carroll's recording of Caterina Schembri's solo piano suite A birch forest seen, imagined, and remembered on the Ergodos record label.

Caterina Schembri's solo piano suite A birch forest seen, imagined, and remembered on the Ergodos record label will form the centrepiece of this special early evening concert by award-winning Irish pianist Máire Carroll. Schembri's exquisitely rendered three-part meditation on the passing of time will be complimented by other solo piano repertoire co-curated and introduced by Carroll and Schembri, including a Romantic-era étude by Cécile Chaminade, and rhythmically incisive work by contemporary / post-minimalist composers Meredith Monk, Tania León, and Julia Wolfe.

The curation of this programme reflects works that have been both aesthetically and technically influential on Schembri and Carroll. At the same time, these pieces share thematic and compositional threads with Schembri’s piano suite, including connections to the idea of memory and the natural world, the depiction of inner landscapes, the exploration of musical colour, and the use of repetition.

Programme
